Organization
Through a series of meetings in the Fall of 2004, the Fergus Grand Theatre Volunteer Committee was formed to address the needs of user groups and patrons in attendance at the Fergus Grand Theatre.
Aims and principles
The FGT Volunteer Committee acts as a working committee with Theatre Staff and the Director of Parks and Recreation, providing advice and recommendations to Department on theatre matters, including the facility, volunteer coordination and activities, and fund raising activities.
Committee members are appointed on the basis of experience, interest and availability to attend meetings. The Township pursues individuals/local residents for membership with the intent to be representative of the user groups at the Theatre and the general community. Parks & Recreation staff are responsible for the appointment of all members of the committee.
Invaluable champions of the Fergus Grand Theatre
The volunteers have been at the heart of the FGT growing success story!
In addition to providing Front of House and Box Office services for user groups, they raise funds through their concession service at all events. To date, the money they have raised has purchased a dozen new lighting instruments, several microphones, a follow spot, stage monitors, a new sound board and other sound equipment, communications head sets, box office computer, program and printer. All of these items were either non-existent or irreparable before the committee was formed.
Volunteer hours in other areas that require attention at the theatre have included redecorating projects throughout the venue, open house’s for the public, and an annual maintenance clean up of all lighting equipment.
Where do you fit in?
The Fergus Grand Theatre Volunteers are a growing group of enthusiastic people who participate in a wide variety of activities at the theatre. They staff front of house, concession and box office during events being staged at the theatre and assist in providing extended box office hours of operation. They provide technical and backstage assistance to user groups that do not have that expertise within their membership. They assist in promoting community events being staged at the theatre. They provide work crews for clean-up, redecorating and seat maintenance. They offer assistance to the Fergus Grand Theatre Volunteer Committee in their efforts to raise money to update and improve the lighting, sound and stage equipment at the theatre. As well, they assist in the committee’s efforts to enhance the quality of services to both user groups staging events and patrons attending them at the Fergus Grand Theatre. As diversified as those activities are – the objectives remain the same. “To offer a consistent and reliable source of quality services to user groups and the public in attendance at events.” AND “To stimulate, in a positive manner, public and township recognition of the Fergus Grand Theatre as making a distinct and uniquely valuable contribution to Centre Wellington’s community recreation activity.”
